Day  4 |TRUST AND TRUTH
TRUST AND TRUTH

Ephesians 1:13-14
“In him you also trusted, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.”
(NKJV)

Have you ever considered how truth and trust go together?  No one would knowingly TRUST something false, at least not if that “trust” was consequential.  For instance, would you trust your life to a tall rickety ladder that did not appear in good condition or strong enough to support you, to climb up 30 feet in the air?

“Fake News” is a fairly recent term, yet fakery (non-truth or selective partial-truth) has probably been used for centuries around the world to try to persuade people to buy something, believe something, or do something. In the old days, people like Walter Cronkite, for example, had a very HIGH trust rating… as did Billy Graham.  Both men were considered truthful and thus trustworthy.  But today, fake news is becoming so mainstream that it is difficult to know what or whom to trust.

In these words to the Ephesians, Paul is recounting and commending them on how, when they had heard the “word of truth,” they trusted, believed in God, and thus became born again and sealed with the promise of the Holy Spirit into the family of God.

Notice what these people in Ephesus believed: “the WORD of TRUTH.”

There are so many sources of information available today that we have to be discerning in order to NOT believe something that has a high-probability of being “fake information.”

But for those of us who are Followers of Jesus, we have determined that God’s Word is TRUTH and can be trusted completely.   We are thus dependent on it for our salvation and future inheritance.

Paul is assuring the Ephesians (and us today) that – just as when a man gives his fiancée a ring of engagement, his promise to marry her – God has given us similar with the “seal of the Holy Spirit” as relates to our final inheritance (or the marriage ceremony) which is the promise of heaven and eternity with the Lord.

But all of this is based on our belief that God and His Word are TRUE and can be relied on and TRUSTED completely… which they can be!

God’s Word has stood the test of time.  Many have tried to disprove it, remove it and/or destroy it… all to no avail.  It has been proven accurate and true in so many ways, including innumerable excavations, debates, discussions and historical evidences.

HIS Word is TRUTH!

Prayer: Lord, I believe YOU, trust YOU and worship YOU.  Your Word is truth.  Help me to draw nearer – day by day – to You, and Your Word and to see the world more and more from a Biblical worldview which is YOUR point of view.  I know that is a perspective I can depend on. Amen.
