Power of 10 - Day 18

The POWER of 10
Day 18 | WHAT ARE YOU THINKING ABOUT?
The POWER of 10
Day 18 | WHAT ARE YOU THINKING ABOUT?
WHAT ARE YOU THINKING ABOUT?
Colossians 3:2
“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”
Every day, we are bombarded with words… written words, spoken words, emails, texts, magazines, newspapers, regular mail, books, contracts, reports, and so on.
Do you ever feel like you're on information overload? I'll admit… I do on occasion.
When Paul wrote today's verse to the Colossian Christians, they knew nothing about what we face today regarding information. But I'm betting Paul had similar problems that day with helping the church folks keep their minds and eyes focused on the LORD and not on the latest rumor, innuendo, argument, or whatnot. WORDS were plentiful then, too.
So, where does your mind go every day? Be honest… do you find yourself focusing more and more on politics, the economy, world events, and the myriad of "what-ifs" that could happen?
I understand, because the NEWS organizations are trying to get you hooked so that you'll tune back in tomorrow and the next day and thus increase your watching and absorption of more and more WORDS.
How about the Word of God? How many HIS words have you taken in today? (And yes, you CAN count this devotional!)
When I talk to people about what they choose to read or listen to each day, many who take in PLENTY of "earthly clatter" do so because they want to keep up with things and "be prepared" for what's coming. Yet when I dig deeper, they seldom have solutions for anything they hear that's coming.
Let me remind you about the One who knows what's coming and how to prepare: Almighty God. HE is the only ONE who knows.
My advice: Take in SOME limited news if you wish, but spend at least the same amount of time with the Lord, in prayer, in His Word, with other believers. You'll be better off.
Prayer: LORD, help me keep my priorities and focus right in Your eyes. Amen.
