The POWER of 10
Day  14 | LOVE ONE ANOTHER
LOVE ONE ANOTHER

1 John 4:7
“Let us love one another, for love is from God.”

Those of us who are born-again know that God is love. It’s throughout the Scriptures, old and new. Here, the Apostle John, in his later years, maybe between 85 and 95 AD, is writing his memoirs – under the guidance of the Holy Spirit – and telling Believers everywhere to "LOVE one another."

(As I write this, I’m humming an OLD chorus based on the KJV of 1 John 4:7-8. Are you humming with me?)

Many people – often non-believers – claim God in the Old Testament is not loving.  Incorrect!  God’s love for His people is throughout the Old and the New Testaments.

Consider Leviticus 19:18 – “…but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.”

The point is that “God is love” (1 John 4:8), throughout the Scriptures and as people who have received Jesus and want to follow Him, we must do what He did: love others.

When the Pharisees were trying to trick Jesus by asking Him which was the most important commandment (of the 613 in the OT), Jesus answered:
“‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”  (Mark 12:29-31)

This statement by Jesus is the reason that our Lake Church motto is: “Love God, love others.” (A shortened version of what Jesus said.)

Our world today is filled with more hatred and animosity than at any time I can remember.

We, Followers of Jesus, are called to be His ambassadors to this world in chaos, and the place to start is by showing love and kindness to others around us.

Prayer: LORD, please give me wisdom, discretion, and a nudge as to when and to whom to show love and kindness by my words and deeds. Thank You, Amen.
