Day  12 | THANKSGIVING AND PRAISE
THANKSGIVING AND PRAISE

Psalm 100:4
“Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise!”
(ESV)

We live in a day when all we seem to hear – at least on TV – is criticism, anger, and frustration.

And so here is David – the shepherd-boy turned King – painting a picture of God’s people marching happily to enter the gates of the Temple where they can PRAISE their marvelous, powerful, loving, Almighty God!

Psalm 100 has always been special to me as it was the first psalm I completely memorized as a kid… maybe in 5th grade. And it’s stuck with me ever since!  But now that I’m an adult, I see great wisdom in this psalm and verse.

David is teaching us to give our Lord God THANKSGIVING and PRAISE.

Now I ask you… does our all-knowing, all-powerful, everywhere-present God NEED our voices to praise and give Him thanks? I mean, will He lose His abilities if we don’t praise Him?

No. He needs NOTHING; He is the LORD God Almighty! He never changes!

So why did King David – inspired by the Holy Spirit – write these words? Who benefits from DOING this verse?  WE DO!

You may not have considered this recently, but WE benefit whenever we sincerely praise our Lord and thank Him for all He’s done for us.

The chorus to that old Andrae Crouch song, “My Tribute,” comes to mind:
To God be the glory for the things He has done
With His blood, He has saved me.
With His power, He has raised me.
To God be the glory for the things he has done.

When we praise the Lord, we remind ourselves of ALL He is, ALL He has done, and how much He loves His children. And THAT can produce marvelous fruit in our lives: confidence, trust, steadfastness, faith, and more.

Try it. Give Him some praise and thanksgiving TODAY.

Prayer: LORD, I’m sorry for being so forgetful about ALL you have done and are doing for me every day. I praise You and am so Thankful! Amen.
