The POWER of 10
Day  8 | SEEK THE LORD
SEEK THE LORD

1 Chronicles 16:11
“Seek the Lord and His strength; Seek His face continually.”
(NASB)

The context of this verse is with King David, before the Temple was built, putting the Ark of the Covenant into a tent for protection, worship, and giving thanks and offerings before the Lord. King David appointed some Levites as ministers. Asaph and others played musical instruments and loud cymbals and trumpets continually before the ark of the covenant of God.

One of the things David told the crowd was today’s verse. In the Amplified, it reads: “Seek the Lord and His strength; Seek His face continually [longing to be in His presence].”

That “longing to be in His presence” was the motivation behind “seeking His face continually.”  That was essentially the purpose of the Tabernacle tent and later the Temple… to be in God’s presence.

The children of Israel, who believed but only knew about the coming Messiah through prophecies, needed a place to be close to God. And that place was to be near the Ark of the Covenant.

Today, we New Testament Believers need not be “near” the Tabernacle, Temple, or church to be closer to the LORD.  Jesus has come, lived, died, and rose again AND sent us the  Comforter, the Holy Spirit, to be with us forever.

It’s almost TOO easy compared to what the Old Testament Believers had to do. But then, I wonder if we take the Lord’s presence with us for granted and thus don’t seek His Face as we should.

Consider this: When did you last praise God with your mouth? I mean, out loud where at least you could hear yourself. When did you last seek the Lord, pray, and desire His strength? (When is the last time you admitted to Him that you NEEDED His strength?)

Some churches today treat the Old Testament as yesterday’s newspaper. I disagree with that but see the Old Testament as INSPIRED by God and beneficial for us today!

Re-read today’s verse and make it a way of life.

Prayer: LORD, I desire You in my life and Your strength and Wisdom and ALL that you have for me. Thank You. Amen.
