The POWER of 10
Day  2 | LIGHT
LIGHT

Genesis 1:3
“God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.” (ESV)

Creating LIGHT was the first step that God took to bring order to chaos. It’s the same way He also helps us with our chaotic, messed-up lives. He brings LIGHT.

“God said.”  It’s important here to realize that God needed only to use His words to SPEAK into creation that which He desired to create.

It’s worth noting, too, that the light came on instantaneously. Genesis was written in Hebrew, and that original language says it better than the English. It says: “Light be; light was.”

Hebrews 11:3 teaches: “By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God."

Genesis 1:3 also teaches that light, day, and night existed BEFORE the sun and the moon were created on the fourth day (Genesis 1:14-19). This shows that light is more than just a physical thing… it has a supernatural aspect.

Consider too how fundamental LIGHT is to life. As an undergrad psych major, I read about some experiments with people who volunteered to be tested in TOTAL darkness and isolation for a period of time to see how they fared.   In all cases, life started going sideways. Without light, people could sleep for several days and think it was a nap. In some cases, the subjects began to hallucinate. The bottom line is that humans need light and interaction to stay sane. Without light, we lose all concepts of time, and without interaction, we become consumed with loneliness and illogical imaginations.

Light is also essential for plant life because photosynthesis and, thus, all our food and energy ultimately depend on sunlight.

And it all started with God speaking LIGHT it into existence.

Prayer: LORD, thank You for the LIGHT. Thank You, especially for Jesus who is THE Light to this dark world. Amen.
