Day  34 | TRUST IN THE LORD
TRUST IN THE LORD

1 Corinthians 2:1-5
“And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the mystery of God. For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.”
(NKJV)

I find it interesting to read what Paul wrote about himself and his preaching to the church at Corinth.  We know that Paul was highly educated and a very effective speaker/ preacher. But he did not want those gifts to get in the way of leading the men and women of that church to come to TRUST in GOD and not his persuasive speaking abilities.

I could easily see how Paul wanted them to develop their own individual belief in Almighty God and grow their faith in HIM.

The disadvantages of letting the Corinthians grow their faith in Paul – because he was so persuasive – are that when Paul wasn’t around – when he had moved down the road to another church – what would they have left?

Sometimes, Christians today have similar problems.  They build their faith around one man – their priest, their pastor, their bishop, or similar… and then sadly, in some cases, he commits a moral failure. In cases like that – fortunately they are few and far between but still too many – MANY lose their faith and walk away wounded and cynical about the church and Christianity.
It’s been said that “God has no grandchildren.”  That’s cute but true.  HE invites each of us to come to be one of His children.  There is no go-between.  As a pastor, I have a role in my church, but I am the “little shepherd” working under the “BIG SHEPHERD.”  He’s God, and we’re not.

Prayer: Lord, help me to grow my trust in YOU and not any person. YOU are God. YOU are my Heavenly Father. I want to know YOU better. Amen.
