Day  28 | TRUSTING GOD IN THE STORM
TRUSTING GOD IN THE STORM

Matthew 8:26
“Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was [at once] a great and wonderful calm [a perfect peacefulness].”
(AMP)

Sometimes I believe that God allows problems in our lives just to see how we handle them.

The context of this verse is a sudden storm that arose on the Sea of Galilee. You remember the story.  Jesus had been healing people, then decided it was time to go across the sea to the other side.  They cast off and a storm arose which was so fierce that it caused fear in the hearts of these experienced fishermen.  (Now, that point is not to be overlooked. They were EXPERIENCED in being at sea and had seen ALL kinds of weather during their lifetimes.)

Jesus was asleep down below. Beginning in verse 25, Scripture tells us: “And the disciples went and woke Him, saying, ‘Lord, save us, we are going to die!’  He said to them, ‘Why are you afraid, you men of little faith?’ and then He got up, rebuked the winds and sea, and there was wonderful calm.”

Do you feel at times like you’re on a raging sea in a rickety boat? Do you fear you might drown – as these disciples felt? Do you wonder why what is happening in our world is happening?

Well, I can’t answer the WHY question, but I can answer a WHO question.

When asked WHO the disciples thought Jesus was, Peter answered: “You are the Christ (aka Messiah in OT), the Son of the living God.”

“Bingo!” Jesus said.  (I’m sure that’s in the Greek somewhere. Ha!)  Peter was right!

Jesus wanted those scared disciples back then, and His frightened disciples today too, to TRUST IN HIM.  No storm is too big for Jesus the Christ.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for being willing AND able to calm the stormy sea.  Help me to rest on You to do all that I can’t.  Amen.
