NEW EVERY MORNING

Lamentations 3:21-23
“Yet this I call to mind and therefore, I have hope:  Because of the Lord’s great love, we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness."

It’s been said that either you’re going through a challenging time in life right now, have just come through one, or will sooner or later be going through one. (My, isn’t that encouraging?)

But since we are not living in heaven yet and this is a broken, sinful world, there is truth in that statement.

Jeremiah – the “weeping prophet” – wrote Jeremiah and Lamentations too. Israel was experiencing problems and God inspired the prophet to remind them that there was HOPE. And the reasons for that hope include the Lord’s, great love.
 
Sometimes it’s hard to imagine God continuing to love us – especially if we act unlovable. And people tend to feel “How could God love me?” because that is how most people react to someone acting wrongly towards them.

But God is NOT a man… He is the Lord God. And because of that, his compassions NEVER fail. His LOVE, His GREAT LOVE for us, never stops, aka “never fails.”

My wife Debbie and I are “early birds.”  We are usually awake and up before the sun rises. And sometimes we venture outside in those early mornings to witness the freshness of the morning, the dew, and the stars fading as we enjoy daybreak and sunrise.

These verses remind us of something new every morning; God’s love, compassion, and faithfulness.

We often mistake comparing God’s love, compassion, and faithfulness to being like that of other people we know (even ourselves).
 
But God is NOT a man that He would lie. He is unique. He loves me, has compassion towards me, and is faithful to me EVEN THOUGH ___________  (fill in the blank for you).
 
Prayer: LORD, thank YOU for the freshness of the mornings and the promise that your love and compassion are NEW every morning because your faithfulness is GREAT. Amen.
