Day 11 | SLOWING DOWN
SLOWING DOWN

Psalm 46:10
“Be still, and know that I am God.”

Have you noticed how FAST everything seems to be going today?

I remember when we got our first 300 baud modem and took my first “online graduate class.” That speed is SOOOO slow compared to our FAST speeds today! Back then, we could only send TEXT (no picture or videos or color, just green screen text) – which made the online class rather clunky and inefficient.

Today, we see the desire for everything faster and faster… not only online, but our cars, air travel, online purchases, and on and on. Most people are – at some level – addicted to FASTER.
And yet, there are many things you can NOT rush: baking a pie, smoking a brisket, spending time with a child or grandchild, creating a poem, getting in shape physically, writing a song, and so much more.

Another thing that cannot be rushed is developing a relationship with the Lord God. Yes, it only takes a minute to receive Christ as Lord and Savior, but growing your relationship with God takes time.

When my wife and I were dating (we met in college), it took time to develop that relationship. After we married, it took more time to deepen that relationship.

I’ve taught that Christianity is NOT a “religion” but rather a “relationship” with Almighty God the Father through His Son, Jesus Christ. And that relationship needs to be developed to GROW.
This verse is vital for our GROWING and for receiving God’s PEACE that passes all understanding.

Whatever you need from your relationship with the Lord, it must include the instruction of THIS verse. We must all fight the “speed” temptation and BE STILL before the Lord, and come to KNOW, really KNOW Him. And that He is our God.

Prayer: LORD, I worship you as my God. Help me learn this new skill, regularly shut out everything, and just be still with You.  Amen.
