40 Days Praying the PSALMS
Day 27 | SING PRAISES TO OUR KING
SING PRAISES TO OUR KING

From Psalm 47
“Come, everyone! Clap your hands! Shout to God with joyful praise! For the Lord Most High is awesome. He is the great King of all the earth."
"Sing praises to God, sing praises; sing praises to our King, sing praises!”
(NLT)

Aren’t emotions interesting? We all have them, built into us by our Creator. And yet, they express themselves in various ways from time to time and sometimes without warning.

Take a movie you might be watching. Often, the directors build you up to a point using music, color, darkness, or action, and then, WHAM! We are surprised, shocked, or bust out in laughter or perhaps sorrow.

Some people can get all worked up and go crazy at a football game, to the point of coloring the hair or body to show support for their team. And some of these folks – I’m guessing – will go to church the next week and not sing or raise hands or show emotions or excitement about God at all for any reason… period… end discussion.

Why?

Some would probably answer: “I don’t want to look undignified.” “I don’t want to draw attention.” “No one else is doing it.”

We believe that “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17, NKJV).

What that means is, that we can learn something from this Psalm. Praising God is NOT for God’s benefit; it is for OURS. Lifting up His name does our heart GOOD.

So, try this: During the week, starting NOW if you choose, PRAISE the Lord out loud right where you are.  If you don’t know what to say, start by reading today’s verses out loud with enthusiasm! It will do you good!

Prayer: LORD, You deserve ALL my praise! You have done so much for me. Help me start a new habit and PRAISE you with my mouth every day in some way. Amen.
