Day 20| THE GREAT AND AWESOME GOD
THE GREAT AND AWESOME GOD

Psalm 33:1-5
“Rejoice in the LORD, O you righteous! For praise from the upright is beautiful. Praise the LORD with the harp; Make melody to Him with an instrument of ten strings. Sing to Him a new song; Play skillfully with a shout of joy. For the word of the LORD is right, and all His work is done in truth. He loves righteousness and justice; The earth is full of the goodness of the LORD.”
(NKJV)

This psalm is an example of pure praise to God for Who He is and what He does.  Picking up from Psalm 32 which ended by calling the righteous to sing praises to God, this Psalm keeps that going!

Spurgeon said: “Take away the Christian’s power of praising God, and you make him a poor earth-worm bound here with doubts, and fears, and cares; but let him but kindle in his soul the flame that burns in heaven of seraphic love to God, and away he mounts.”

The psalmist here states emphatically that the “word of the LORD is right and all His work is done in TRUTH.”

In today’s world, “truth” seems in short supply and even when truth IS told in a public gathering, on the evening news or elsewhere, it is contradicted, poo-pooed, sarcastically laughed at, or in some other way denigrated.  A growing percentage of people today do NOT want to know “THE truth.”  They prefer to believe “their own truth.”

The writer of this psalm is stating that God is truth, His work and His word.  Further, that He is righteous and just and good.

This Psalm makes a good read… in large part because it is so full of PRAISE to our Lord and God.

Prayer: LORD, thank You for inspiring this Psalm. In our broken world today, we all need – and me especially – to PRAISE You more – from a sincere heart. Amen.
