40 Days Praying the PSALMS
Day 6 | THE GLORY OF THE LORD
THE GLORY OF THE LORD

 From Psalm 8
“O Lord, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth,
Who have set Your glory above the heavens! Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have ordained strength, because of Your enemies, that You may silence the enemy and the avenger.
When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained, What is man that You are mindful
of him, and the son of man that You visit him?”

A famous pastor from the past – AW Tozer – said something profound: “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.”

Look at what David said about God in this Psalm.

Consider that he used adjectives for God such as “excellent, glory, above, ordained (authorized) strength, the moon, stars and heavens, silence the avenger, and more.”

And then he asks a question we might all wonder: WHY God, do you even care about we people… about me?

David realizes how GREAT God is and how weak and puny David is (and we too).

Today, many on this planet are uncaring and disinterested in God. They don’t care – as David acknowledged here – that God is GREAT. It seems that most people are only interested in their lives, their plans, and their tomorrow.

But David is telling God – and all who did sing or read this Psalm like we are doing today – that God is “excellent.”  His ability is GREAT; that He can silence those who oppose Him.  God made the heavens, the moon, and the stars by His fingertips.

So the question:  What DO you think about when you think about God?

Prayer: LORD, You are superb, all-powerful, everywhere present and all-knowing. Also, You are loving, patient with us, and want to help Your children live victoriously daily. Help me to worship You properly. You are the Almighty God. “O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is Your name in all the earth!” (vs. 9)  Amen.
