40 Reasons God DELIGHTS in YOU
Day 30 | YOU CAN PRAY FOR OTHERS
YOU CAN PRAY FOR OTHERS

2 Corinthians 1:10-11
“And he did rescue us from mortal danger, and he will rescue us again.  We have placed our confidence in him, and he will continue to rescue us. 11 And you are helping us by praying for us.  Then many people will give thanks because God has graciously answered so many prayers for our safety.”
(NLT)

The back story to today’s verses (found in verses 1-9) is that Paul and his entourage were ministering in the province of Asia and having all kinds of problems and troubles.  Things were so bad that Paul admitted to the Corinthians that he thought they would not live through it.  But God DID rescue them!

Then Paul THANKS the church for PRAYING for him and his team.

Prayer.  It seems so simple, so familiar, yet so seemingly of no effect that – except in times of extreme personal stress or danger – surveys show that many Christians just don’t pray regularly.  And even then – again, when surveyed – most admitted they seldom pray for anyone other than themselves and their immediate family.

When we pray for others – as the Corinthians apparently had been doing for Paul – we call it “intercessory prayer.” That term – intercessor – comes from the Latin, which means “to come between.”  When we PRAY FOR OTHERS, we pray to the Lord on behalf of someone else.

Intercessory prayer is not only a privilege; it is something we should want to do because we “love one another.” God is love, and Jesus taught His followers (that means us too) to “love one another and thus prove that you are my disciples” (followers).

So, look around your church.  Who needs prayer? Is there a prayer list you can get?  Are you in a small group where the sharing of prayer requests happen regularly?  And if requests are shared, do you PRAY?  The world today seems to be getting darker, and Believers everywhere need more prayer for and from one another.  Decide to be an intercessor today.

Prayer: LORD, I do want to follow You and do my Christian walk Your way.  Help me not to be selfish or lazy in my praying but to pray sincerely for others as an intercessor.  Amen.
