40 Reasons God DELIGHTS in YOU
Day 18 | REST AND PROTECTION
REST AND PROTECTION
Psalm 91:1-2, 9-11
“Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him. If you make the Lord your refuge, if you make the Most High your shelter, no evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your home. For he will order his angels to protect you wherever you go.” (NLT)
Do you wear a seat belt when riding in a car? Why? Yes, it is the law in most places, but why originally? Right! They protect us in case of an accident or sudden slamming on of the brakes.
What about all the other times? What if were not in a car?
This Psalm describes God’s sovereign protection of His people from all the problems and dangers in the world today. But notice… this protection is only for those who LIVE as this Scripture says. Those who:
1. LIVE in the shelter of the Most High.
2. REST under His shadow.
3. DECLARE that He is LORD
4. State the Lord is their REFUGE and place of SAFETY.
5. TRUST in Him.
Then, if you do ALL of those things, “NO evil will conquer you or plague come near your home.”
Note… this does not promise you will not ever see any evil. But it does say that no evil will CONQUER you – which means defeat or destroy you.
Then the Psalmist writes: “For he (God) will order his angels to protect you wherever you go.”
Life today is more complex than perhaps ever in history. With all the internet, cable, satellite communications, instant connection with people worldwide and more, we need God’s REST and protection.
God and His angels will provide what we need… but, as with most of God’s promises, we must do our part too.
Prayer: Lord, I want and need your protection. Help me remember to do the things I need to do so that I can enjoy what you want to make available for me. Amen.
