THE MINISTRY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

John 16:13-14
“But when He, the Spirit of Truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth [full and complete truth]. For He will not speak on His own initiative, but He will speak whatever He hears [from the Father—the message regarding the Son], and He will disclose to you what is to come [in the future].  He will glorify and honor Me, because He (the Holy Spirit) will take from what is Mine and will disclose it to you.”
(AMP)

Jesus continues here telling and teaching His followers some last-minute things He wants them to know before He goes to the cross. Jesus is trying to help them understand why He must go away.

Consider… for over three years, they have walked, talked, and lived with Jesus. They have watched His miracles, heard His sermons, seen Him heal, and so much more. Now, Jesus is preparing them that His time has come – the MAIN reason for His visit to planet earth – to die for the sin of the world.

And then, Jesus tells them some GOOD news… the Holy Spirit (aka “Spirit of Truth”) will be coming, and (although they didn’t get it at the time) even though Jesus in the flesh could only be one place at a time, the Spirit of God, is “omnipresent” – present everywhere at once.

Further, Jesus tells them that the Holy Spirit will “guide you into all truth.”  How amazing is that! But wait, that was then… what about now? Good news! Upon receiving Jesus as Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit comes inside us to reside and guide us and more! So, all that Jesus is telling His followers THEN applies to we followers of Jesus today too! The Spirit will disclose what is to come, speak God’s truth to us, remind us of what Jesus said, and more!

Prayer: LORD, thank You for the ministry of the Holy Spirit in my life. Thank You that, for starters, He cleanses me, comforts, gives me gifts and fruit, and leads me into all truth, Your truth. Amen.
