Day 29 | JESUS AND THE FATHER ARE ONE | John 14:8-11
JESUS AND THE FATHER ARE ONE

John 14:8-11
“Philip said to Him, ‘Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, “Show us the Father”? Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works.  Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me.’”
(NKJV)

Admittedly, the concept of the Trinity is challenging. It is beyond anything we know in the natural. And yet, even though the word “trinity” is not found in the Bible, it is taught throughout.
In this instance, after Jesus has told them, “in my Father’s house are many mansions,” and getting them focused on heaven, Philip asks to see the Father.

Jesus answers – “If you have seen me, you have seen the Father (because) I am in the Father and the Father is in me.”

Again, nothing in our experience compares to that. Thus, it’s a struggle to understand.
There are other things in the Bible that are also challenging for we humans to understand (how about “everlasting life” as nothing we know on planet earth lasts forever – not even products with a “lifetime guarantee” Ha!).

Verses like Genesis 1:26 allude to our triune God too: “Then God said, ‘Let US make man in OUR image, after OUR likeness.’”  Note: the word GOD here in Hebrew is “Elohim,” which is the plural of “Eloah,” which means (non-plural) God. Note too, “us” and “our.”

In these verses in John, Jesus is speaking the truth – “I am in the Father, and the Father is in me”

Prayer: LORD, although I don’t fully grasp it, I believe you are ONE God yet three persons: Father, Son, and Spirit. Thank YOU for all that you do for me. Amen.
