CONFIDENCE IN PRAYER

1 John 5:14
“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.”

Can you remember the last time you spoke intending to be heard by someone in another part of your home? You couldn’t see them but were pretty sure they would hear you if you’d just speak loudly.  But then – receiving no reply – you figured they hadn’t heard.

Do you ever feel like that with God when you pray?

You have this problem or issue or decision to make and you need a quick answer from the Almighty, so you pray. But then, you don’t HEAR back in ten seconds, so you guess He didn’t hear you.

But what if He DID hear but chose to make you wait a little for the answer.

Some have said that God answers all prayers with either a “yes” or a “no” or a “wait.”  And in our instant communication world, we don’t like to wait, and we certainly don’t want a NO.

When you prayed, did you already have your mind made up and were just seeking His blessing, or were you really, honestly praying… seeking HIS will?

John, the last standing apostle, wrote this verse to the Christians of his era and to us too.  Having been with Jesus through it all, he knew much.

John makes it plain that if we want to make sure God hears us – if we are genuinely seeking His blessing and His granting of our request – we need to ask “according to His will.”
And His Word (the Bible) is His will.  The more time you spend there, the more effective your prayers will be.

Prayer: LORD, help me dig into your word more regularly and thus learn to pray better and more confidently.  Amen.
