Day 10 | BEARING FRUIT | John 15:16
BEARING FRUIT

John 15:16
“You have not chosen Me, but I have chosen you, and I have appointed and placed and purposefully planted you, so that you would go and bear fruit and keep on bearing, and that your fruit will remain and be lasting, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you.”
(AMP)

For context… earlier in John 15, we hear Jesus teach his followers that “I am the vine, and you are the branches.”

In this verse, it seems clear that Jesus wants to prevent His disciples from becoming spiritually proud about their privilege and relationship with Him.  Thus, He makes it clear that HE chose them and appointed and placed and planted them. None of them was chosen because of his natural talents or was deserving in some way.

It is also crystal clear that their purpose – and OURS: to “BEAR FRUIT.” This is not a one-time event. Rather the verse says: go and bear fruit and keep on bearing.”

In other places in the New Testament, we learn that followers of Jesus are blessed so that we might display the Fruits of the Spirit (Gal 5:22-23), show what righteous behavior looks like (Phil 1:11), give God our sacrifice of praise (Heb 13;15) and also to encourage others to follow Jesus.  (Matt 28:19)

The last part of this verse is a fantastic promise: “… so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name, He may give to you.”

We can ask the Father anything, in Jesus’ name (meaning in Jesus’ will for us), and be confident that He will answer and supply our needs.

Prayer: LORD, thank you for all you supply for me.  You have given me your Holy Spirit and everything that I need for living a full life here that is pleasing to You. Amen.
