SINCERE AND TRUTHFUL

Psalm 145:18-19
“The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him sincerely and in truth. He will fulfill the desires of those who reverently and worshipfully fear Him; He also will hear their cry and will save them.”

Oftentimes a Christian will “feel” distant from God. Maybe it’s guilt, maybe neglect, maybe something Else. But for some reason they don’t feel close to God.

King David – the author of this psalm – is reminding us that the Lord is NEAR to all who call upon Him sincerely, truthfully, with reverence and worship and the “fear of the Lord.”

Proverbs teaches us that the “fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.”  But sometimes, we drift away from the Lord.  It’s easy to do. We skip church. We stop our devotional life.  We stop being thankful to Him for all His blessings, for our life, for our salvation and ALL that we have.
And then, when the foundations shake, when the world goes nuts and fear grips us… we try to pray.

I think in those times this verse would suggest that the best thing we can do is be “sincere and truthful” and ask forgiveness for NOT keeping our relationship with Him close.

This verse goes on to say that GOD wants to fulfill the desires of those who will cry out to Him.
An example might be… Have you ever needed a favor from a friend or family member who you hadn’t talked to for a LONG time?  You know that they can meet your need, but you are hesitant to ask because you feel guilty for not having kept in contact.

Consider your relationship with God similarly.

I’ve often said, “If you don’t feel close to God, guess who moved?”

Prayer: LORD, forgive me for letting things distract me from staying in close relationship with YOU.  You are Almighty God and I am so thankful that I can have a real relationship with You.   Amen.
