40 Days of PEACE
Day 36 | PEACE WITHIN YOUR WALLS | Psalm 122:6-8
PEACE WITHIN YOUR WALLS

Psalm 122:6-8
“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: ‘May they prosper who love you.  Peace be within your walls, Prosperity within your palaces.’ For the sake of my brethren and companions, I will now say, ‘Peace be within you.’
(NKJV)

King David wrote this psalm and as is evident, was praying for the peace of Jerusalem.  Even the word “prosper” here – in the Hebrew “shalah” – referred to being secure, tranquil and at rest; the essential idea was quietness and ease. (See how close it is to shalom?)

Doesn’t that sound good to you?  Quietness, rest, being secure and having time to be tranquil.
Our world today – especially with all the technologies – spins fast.  “Rest” is often seen as a bad word, an evil word, something to be avoided if possible.

And yet, in this “40 Days of Peace” series, we’ve seen that PEACE is something that the LORD truly wants for His children.

I’m reminded of the old saying, “If you don’t feel close to God, guess who moved?”
Two statements struck me in Psalm 122: “PEACE be within your walls” and “PEACE be within you.”

Question: How peaceful is your home, your church, or your neighborhood?  On a scale of 0 to 10, how would you rate one or all of those places?

Next question: How peaceful are YOU?  Give that a number.

I wouldn’t be surprised if, for many, those numbers are similar.

Why?  Because frequently, we bring our level of peace (or unrest) with us to our home, our church, and our neighborhood.

Jesus taught us: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.”

It starts with YOU.

Prayer: LORD, show me steps I can take to be more peaceful in you.  Please help me to eliminate from my life those things that I can cut out that are robbing me of the peace you want for me.  I want to be – as David wrote - tranquil, quiet, at ease, and at rest.  Amen.
