Day 13 | DWELLING IN SAFETY  Psalm 4:8
DWELLING IN SAFETY

Psalm 4:8
“In peace I will both lie down and sleep, For You alone, O Lord, make me to dwell in safety.”

Have you ever tried going to sleep in a new location and had difficulty falling to sleep because of all the new sights and sounds?  Maybe the bed or cot was uncomfortable, perhaps you were worried about where you were… but something kept you from sleeping.

David – the author of this psalm – was saying he could sleep at night, even in distressing times and surrounded by the ungodly, because his safety, his peace, was from the LORD… not from feelings or circumstances.

As I was pondering this, I couldn’t help but ask myself, “How did David do that?  How did he come to trust the LORD so much that he could sleep soundly, wherever he was?”

The answer: David spent TIME with the LORD. In prayer.  In listening to Him.  In talking to Him.  In repenting of his mistakes.  In continuing his efforts to be upright and holy.

Today, we are so distracted: our phones, our emails, our to-do lists. We want PEACE, and we want to “dwell in safety,” but we’re often not willing the “pay the price” to get there.  David was willing to pay the price, spend the time, to get to know His God better, personally, and then commit himself to HIM.

If you’re not feeling the peace that passes all understanding, let me gently say, “It’s not God’s fault.”  HE has offered each of us a way to live that will allow us to live in peace and dwell in safety.

Prayer: LORD, forgive me for not spending quality time with YOU.  I believe that I would benefit greatly, and I would like to do better. Help me to make the time in each of my days for YOU. Amen.
