BEING UPHELD

Isaiah 41:10
“Do not fear, for I am with you; do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”

I remember a time when I was a kid, maybe ten years old, that our family went on a day trip to a lake just a couple of hours away.  I also remember that we brought our dog, Dukie, with us.

It was a long drive and at the first glimpse of the lake, my dad pulled over and we all piled out.  Our dog was the first to hop out and ran towards some ducks he saw in the water near the shore.

However, unbeknownst to him – and to us – was that between where we stopped the car and where the ducks were in the water, there was some very, very wet mud.  So muddy that when the dog ran, he started to sink.  It was quicksand.

I ran after him, quickly sank to my knees, and continued to sink (it was a weird feeling).  My dad came after me, moved a nearby fallen log over near me, crawled out on it, grabbed me, I grabbed the dog, and then he pulled us both out.  It was amazing.

Our LORD is saying to us, “Fear not, for I am your GOD.”  I have all the strength you need.  I know everything that is going on.  I know where the quicksand of life is and am capable of helping you avoid it and, if necessary, pull you OUT.

“I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”  What a great promise from a great, all-powerful God.

Prayer: LORD, you are GOD. There is no equal to you. You know all, you are everywhere, and you are all-powerful.  Help me remember that EVERY day and also to give thanks for my relationship to you through your Son Jesus. Amen.
