Day 4 | WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME? | Matthew 11:28-30
WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME?

Matthew 11:28-30
(Jesus said):
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Whether they realize it or not, most people evaluate every choice they make by an internal question: “What’s In It For Me?”

Here, Jesus invites listeners – then and now – who are exhausted and burdened by their own spiritual emptiness to come to HIM.

What’s in it for those who do is… “rest for their souls.”

Our souls are usually defined as mind and emotions, which are the aspects of ourselves that impact our relationships with other people.

But in the process of living life and dealing with friends, family, and other people, we sometimes get weary.  It seems even Jesus – when walking the earth – became tired after dealing with people all day long.  On one occasion, He told his guys… “Let’s get in the boat and go to the other side of the lake,” to try to get away from the crowd.

Ever feel like that?  Ever had it “up to here” with people?  Ever felt weary?  Then this verse is for you!

Jesus offers PEACE.  He provides REST.  He also says, “my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”  That means that we are to turn to Him, cast all our care on Him, and follow Him obediently.  Like oxen in the “old days” – but for us – the yoke will help us LEARN from the Master and receive REST.

Prayer: LORD, there are times – perhaps more than I’d like to admit – where I need Your peace and rest.  I’m ready to take Your yoke on and, in doing so, cast my burden on you as I receive your peace. Amen.
