40 Days of Promise
Day 31 | God’s Oath and Promise | Hebrews 6:15-19
God’s Oath and Promise
Hebrews 6:15-19
“And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised. Now when people take an oath, they call on someone greater than themselves to hold them to it. And without any question that oath is binding. God also bound himself with an oath, so that those who received the promise could be perfectly sure that he would never change his mind. So God has given both his promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us. This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls.” (NLT)

Every day in courtrooms across this nation, people about to testify take an oath.  They promise… indeed they are bound to tell the truth as they are “under oath.”
Abraham, who lived approximately 2000 years BEFORE the writing of Hebrews, was given a promise by God.  “I will make your name great, and I will bless you … and all the peoples on the earth will be blessed through you."  (Gen 12:2-3)

Question: Did God fulfill His promise to Abraham?  (Yes!  I’m guessing you have heard of Abraham BEFORE you read this devotional. Wow!)

So, in Hebrews, we learn that God has given us who are followers of Christ both His promise and His oath to supply our needs, take care of us, protect us, provide us with strength, wisdom, and ultimately eternal life with HIM in heaven!  He desires for us to have a relationship with HIM that starts NOW and is eternal.

That should give every Believer a GREAT HOPE which is “a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls."

Prayer: LORD, I want to thank You for assuring me of Your being an anchor for my soul in the choppy seas and storms of life in which we live today.   Amen.
