Day 23 | BLESSED (Part 3) | Psalm 1:1c
“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful”

We continue in our pondering of Psalm 1:1 and come to the phrase: “…nor sits in the seat of the scornful.”

As alternatives to “scornful,” other translations use mockers, scoffers, sarcastic, and ridiculers.
Today, we are seeing this ALL the time.

Just last week, somebody sent me a link to a news article in which the commentator was apparently having a breakdown (my opinion) and going berserk saying emphatically that Christians are “haters” (untrue), “anti-science” (untrue), “bigots” (untrue) and are going to end up “being the death of all of us” (untrue).

All untrue statements, and yet, the news feed put it out there.

I think this clearly shows that the commentator qualifies as a scornful ridiculer (or just a plain liar.)

Here’s the heads-up: We seem to live in a time in our American history, in which we Christians are considered “the enemy” by many atheists and agnostics who do not believe in God.
Some Christians seem to be playing the game… “go along to get along.”  Going along with (“sitting with the scornful”) to avoid being ridiculed or made fun of or mocked.

Jesus was mocked, and we who follow Him should be prepared as well. But also, be ready to give a REASON why you believe what you believe. While many HATE what we stand for and will not discuss it, MANY are open to that discussion and are looking for answers… and ultimately are OPEN to and LOOKING for our God.

Prayer: LORD, help me be sensitive to those around me and help those open to talk about You. Amen.
