Day 20 | God is NOT Like Us | Numbers 23:19
God is NOT Like Us
Numbers 23:19
“God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through?”  (NLT)
It’s challenging for us to consider God.  We know people VERY well and might even remember that we’re made in God’s image. But to imagine what God is like?  That’s a challenge.

And knowing each other as we do, we know that people LIE and change their minds and do wrong things.  So naturally, we subconsciously pin those attributes onto God too.

In these verses, God is challenging Balak – like He did Job – to “show Me where I’ve not followed through, failed to act or not done what I said I would do.”

God reminds us all that HE is NOT a man, so He doesn’t lie.  He is NOT a human, so He does NOT change His mind.

This is important for us to remember because our natural tendency is NOT to trust ANYONE 100% of the time to do what they say they will do.

But GOD is God… and He is NOT like us.

Have you ever made a Xerox copy of a copy of a copy of a copy?  Do it enough times, and your copy starts looking a long way from the perfect ORIGINAL.

We ARE made in God’s image, but HE is God.  He is the Original.  He is perfect.  Living in a broken world has made us look a lot different from the original.  (And that’s where His promises give us HOPE.)

Prayer: LORD, thank YOU for being GOD and for reminding me in Scripture that you don’t lie, and You don’t change Your mind.  Your promises are FOR me; they are for we believers, forever.  Amen.
