Escape Promises
2 Peter 1:3-4
“By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.  And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.” (NLT)

We live in a broken, sinful world.  That is why we experience all the EVIL which was NOT a part of the world until Adam and Eve messed-up in Genesis 3.  Since that time, we all live in a world that is filled with corruption, immorality and wrong-doing.

But God (I like that phrase … “but God” … ) provided an escape for us through His Son Jesus.

However, it’s not enough just to know ABOUT Jesus Christ (even demons know about Jesus). For these promises to be OURS, we need to become Followers of Jesus.

Have you ever experienced an “escape house?”  Pre-virus, it was a “game” where 4-8 people would pay to be “locked” into a room with clues all around which enabled them to figure out how to escape.  My wife and I and some good friends did this once… and it was a hoot!

Today, this messy world is NOT a game.  But God has offered the opportunity to share His divine nature (through the infilling of the Holy Spirit) and then be led – so that we can “escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.”

Prayer: LORD, thank You for providing a Guide – the Holy Spirit – to help me escape the “stuff” and corruption happening in this broken, sinful world. Amen.
