Day 4 | Made in God’s Image | Genesis 1:26
Made in God’s Image
Genesis 1:26
“Then God said: ‘Let us make human beings in our image, make them reflecting our nature.’” (MSG)

This may not sound like a direct promise, but it is a big one. WE are made in God’s likeness, His image, with His nature.

My wife Debbie and I love dogs and as I write this, our pair of golden retriever puppies are nearly 7 months old.  They are energetic, smart, loving and fun. But they are also destructive, chewers, always hungry, and bark.

Now we people are sometimes like dogs, BUT (and a HUGE BUT)… dogs were NOT made in God’s image. You and I were.

Even if we’re not living in a way pleasing to the Lord, you and I are STILL made in God’s image.  Not the dogs nor cats nor dolphins nor zebras nor any other created thing – just people.

Among other things, this means that WE can imagine.  Architects do it all the time. They look at a plot of land and IMAGINE what could be built there. Auto designers do the same… as do artists and movie makers and on and on (you get the idea). We can also dream… dream of having a family or of taking a road trip. We can envision any number of projects, ideas, trips, and things to do.

We also have the CHOICE as to how to use this great gift of being made in the likeness of God and being endowed with His nature.  Take our words for example… we can use them for good or bad. We can bless others or curse them.  We can encourage or discourage.

YOU are made in God’s image… And that’s a promise!

Prayer: LORD, thank You for making me in your image.  Forgive me for not always living up to it and help guide me to do better.  Amen.
