Day 29 | GODLY WISDOM

GODLY WISDOM
James 1:5
“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”
From the time we are born, we embark on a long series of educational experiences in which we learn – initially from our parents – how to live life and acquire the knowledge necessary to enjoy a fulfilling life.
I think of children who eventually reach the point of saying, “Mommy, I want to do it myself.” And so, even when their shoe tying might not meet parental standards, they do learn and tend to improve over time.
Life-long learning is a motto for some schools and learning communities, and essentially all of us – including those of you reading (or listening) to this devotional – should never stop learning. (In fact, that is why regular church attendance is vital to Abundant Christian Living; we should never stop learning about our faith and our Lord God.)
In today’s verse – a favorite of mine – the author James is telling us that when things seem to be going sideways, we should ask God why. And other verses in Scripture teach us to seek God’s wisdom in all aspects of our lives, whether good or bad… to ask Him to help us see what is going on in our lives with Godly wisdom and the understanding that only He can give us, His children.
The issue some Believers have, I’ve discovered, is that their pride keeps them from asking the Lord questions, much like the two-year-old who says, “I want to do it myself.” Keep in mind: He’s God and we’re not. Feel free to ASK Him when you don’t understand something.
Prayer: LORD, You are all-wise, and I’m not. Help me to lean on You for understanding things… from the point of view that YOU want me to have. Amen.
