Day 27 | HOW TO BE COURAGEOUS

HOW TO BE COURAGEOUS
Joshua 1:7-9
“Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” (NIV)
Remember “The Wizard of Oz” and the Cowardly Lion who only wanted courage? Well, I don’t know about cowardly lions, but I know that WE ALL need some real courage from time to time.
In this verse God was speaking to Joshua as he was about to lead God’s people into the Promised Land. It had been a 40-year journey with Moses, and now, under Joshua’s leadership, it was time. But wait… there are “giants in the land”!
There’s a lot in these verses, but the two KEYS are: God’s command to (1) be “very courageous,” and (2) read, meditate on, and DO the Word of God (aka “book of the law”).
And what does the Lord promise as a result?
“For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” (KJV)
In James 1:20 we read, “Be doers of the Word and not hearers only.” A New Testament verse consistent with what we have here in Joshua. We can and should live these verses today too..
Prayer: Lord, You are the same yesterday, today, and forever. Your Word is truth. Thank You for that and the freedom I have to read, meditate on, and DO Your Word daily. Amen.
