Day 26 | SEEKING WISDOM

SEEKING WISDOM
Proverbs 2:6
“For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.”
Wisdom in the Bible of all types – practical, moral, or divine – refers to the ability to make sound judgments and decisions based on knowledge and insights which ultimately come from the all-knowing, all-wise Lord God… Creator of the universe.
Proverbs was written by Solomon, who when asked by God in 1 Kings 3, “What do you want?” asked for an “understanding heart and the ability to know right from wrong.” The LORD was pleased with this request and gave him more … but wisdom was at the top of what God gave him.
So, Solomon wrote today’s verse, understanding fully that the LORD gives wisdom, for He – the Lord – is all wise, all powerful, all knowing, and more.
Billy Graham had a reading formula he used for many years. He read five Psalms and one Proverb a day; thus, in one month, he would have read through both the entire book of Psalms and the entire book of Proverbs. My micro-introduction to both of those books is that the Psalms show us the “vertical” relationship… between us and the Lord God. And Proverbs shows us the “horizontal” relationship… people to people. Put them together – vertical and horizontal – and you have a cross.
We all need WISDOM. When we start as children, our wisdom is about zero. As we grow and experience life with its ups and downs, we gain some wisdom (“the hard way,” some would say.)
Reading the book of Proverbs, or perhaps James in the New Testament, or just spending time in the Word of God, will add to your wisdom and knowledge and help you to live the life Jesus mentioned in John 10:10: “I have come to give you life and to give it to you more abundantly.”
Prayer: LORD, please help me grow in wisdom every time I open Your Book. Amen.
