Day 23 | THE WORD OF GOD
THE WORD OF GOD

Hebrews 4:12
“For the Word of God is alive, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

Some of the Hebrew people back then were – as some church people are today – just going through the motions of following Jesus. They were, intellectually speaking, partially persuaded about Jesus Christ, but inside, in their souls, they were not.   It’s clear here in Hebrews that God’s Word exposes shallow beliefs and even false intentions.

Consider God’s Word being “alive and powerful” so much so that it can SEE within a person better than our best MRI, CT, or X-ray machines. God’s Word can even SEE and judge a person’s thoughts and intentions!

Have you ever had a private thought? Well, now you know that you haven’t, as God knows EACH one. (How does that make you feel?)

God’s Word being “alive and powerful” is ENCOURAGING for those who are Followers of Jesus and are walking right before the Lord. Yes, we can and do slip from time to time, and thus we have 1 John 1:9 (what I call the “Christian’s bar of soap”), that reminds us to confess, receive forgiveness, and keep going.

Here’s a short list of benefits to us in hearing and embracing the Word of God: God’s Word gives us strength, counsel, illumination, guidance, peace, and security. God’s Word brings peace to those who love it, bears fruit in our lives, provides safety for us, counsel, cleansing, keeps us from sin, and is the means to sanctification. The hearing of God’s Word builds our faith, and in today’s skeptical society, we need that.

Re-read today’s verse and rejoice!

Prayer: Lord, thank YOU for Your Word – it is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Amen.
