Day 18 | IN EVERYTHING GIVE THANKS

IN EVERYTHING GIVE THANKS
1 Thessalonians 5:18
“In everything give thanks, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
This is the final verse in 1 Thessalonians and teaches us the importance of an “attitude of gratitude”… aka being thankful as a lifestyle.
We have so much for which to be thankful, and this is true for all Believers in every country on the globe. Our sins are forgiven, the Holy Spirit lives within us and brings with Him the nine fruit of the Spirit, and so much more!
Quick – whether you’re reading or listening to this devotional – name THREE things you are thankful for in your life right now.
How’d you do? I guess that either it was easy and you could keep going beyond three, or you haven’t recently thought about things you are thankful for and took a minute or two to think of some.
There is much research about the benefits of being a thankful person, such as improved physical and psychological health, increased opportunities for friendship, better sleep, greater mental resilience, and better self-esteem, to name a few.
The problem for most is NOT that they don’t have things for which they are grateful, but rather that advertising and envy cause us always to be looking for the next BIG thing. The next car, the next house, the next… (well, you get the idea).
Becoming a truly thankful person requires looking around, looking back, and being grateful to the Lord for how He has blessed you!
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 says: “Rejoice always, praying without ceasing and in everything give thanks, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
DOING these verses is not optional for the Child of God; it is His will for us.
Prayer: LORD, thank You for these practical verses that I know are Your will for me, and for my benefit. Amen.
