PRAY THROUGHOUT THE DAY
1 Thessalonians 5:17
“Pray without ceasing.”
Another KEY to an abundant Christian life is to PRAY throughout the day, or as Paul wrote it: “Pray without ceasing.”
Now, admittedly, we can’t bow our heads, close our eyes, and fold our hands in prayer all day long, but we can COMMUNICATE with God throughout the day. While driving, while preparing dinner, while gardening, while on the treadmill… you get the idea, right?
What Paul is encouraging here, via the Holy Spirit to ALL who are Followers of Christ Jesus, is that we should maintain open communications with our Lord God throughout the day. A daily morning devotional and prayer are terrific, and we should – as Jesus taught in Matthew 6:6 – also have times when we shut out all distractions and noise and have one of those “Be still, and know that I am God” moments.
For most of us, our days are busy, noisy, and full of people and events. YET, that should not stop our thinking about God and talking to Him – albeit briefly – throughout the day as needed or as desired.
So, what kind of things do YOU enjoy praying to God about? Health issues, check. Family issues, check. Financial problems, check. But what about that neighbor or friend of yours who doesn’t know the Lord or who used to go to church, but quit? Pray for him, too. What about the American President? We are commanded to pray for him, too. What about Israel, what about your community, what about the fires that may be burning somewhere, or the earthquake, or volcano eruption, or hurricane victims? Get the idea? Pray without ceasing.
Prayer: LORD, I believe in You and want to implement this verse into my life. Thank You for the privilege of talking to YOU -Almighty God – in prayer. Amen.
