Day 16 | REJOICE ALWAYS
REJOICE ALWAYS

1 Thessalonians 5:16
“Rejoice Always”

JOY is one of the most prominent themes in the Bible. Because God so loved the world, He wanted to bring us many things – including JOY!

In the Old Testament, God’s people rejoiced and sang songs of joy when they escaped from slavery in Egypt and arrived in the Promised Land.

In the New Testament, Jesus himself said: “I have spoken these things to you so that my joy might be in you and that your joy might be full.”  (John 15:11)

Paul often shares in his writings about having JOY even when the circumstances are NOT what you want them to be.

And that itself is an essential point about JOY.

JOY does not require our circumstances to be perfect. They might be – and that’s great – but we, as Believers filled with the Holy Spirit, CAN and should be JOYFUL always, as today’s verse says.

JOY is rooted in who God is, not what our circumstances are. The “stuff” we own, the accolades we have received, our families, other people in our lives – might all be wonderful in their ways, but the SOURCE of joy is… Jesus.  Jesus is God’s plan from the beginning, that the Word would be made flesh and dwell among us, eventually paying the price of forgiveness and our adoption into God’s family as His children.

That should never fail to cause us to be FULL OF JOY!

Today’s verse – written by the Apostle Paul to the church he started at Thessaloniki – is, by the way, the SHORTEST verse in the Bible, in the Greek – two words, easy to memorize. FIND something every day about which you can REJOICE, and then do it!

Prayer: LORD, I never want to seem ungrateful to You for all You’ve done. Please help me learn to make this verse a daily part of my life. Amen.
