TRUST-DELIGHT-COMMIT (Part 2)
Psalm 37:4
“Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.” (KJV)
Often, when people read this verse they feel they’ve discovered a hidden “jackpot” and can simply tell the Lord what they want, and presto… it appears! As anyone who has walked with the Lord for any number of years knows… this is faulty thinking.
Our Heavenly Father, like good earthly fathers, wants to bless us – His children – as earthly fathers wish to bless their children. And we earthly fathers tend to know which requests of young children should be granted and which should not. The same is true of our Heavenly Father.
Consider Jesus’ words on the Sermon on the Mount: “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!” (Matthew 7:11)
The key word in today’s verse is the word “DELIGHT” (“anag” in Hebrew), which means to make yourself soft and pliable. The picture is that of God, the potter, and you, the clay. You’re on the pottery wheel and need to rest and relax in God’s all-knowing, capable hands, and let Him mold you, make you, and give you the plans and dreams He knows are best for you. He is more than capable of putting good plans into your heart and mind… and then fulfilling them. (Remember the devotional from a couple of days ago: “For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans to prosper and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”)
Prayer: LORD, I trust You to know what path is best for me. Guide me, lead me, mold me, and give me the desires You know best for me. Amen.
