TRUST AND PATHS
Proverbs 3:5-6
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” (NKJV)
One of the most familiar and most viewed verses online (per BibleGateway.com), this is also MANY folks’ “life verse,” and with good reason. After all, who wouldn’t want the Lord to direct and guide while we are living in a messy world?
The Hebrew word for trust (“batach”) means to lie down on, to hope in, to be confident, and to put your entire weight on something. At night, we lie down and put our whole weight on a bed. In the above verse, “with all your heart” means ENTIRELY or COMPLETELY. So, the LORD (Yahweh) is saying, “Trust me completely as I can sustain you, and by the way, your limited understanding is insufficient. I’m God, I know everything.”
Further, verse 6 tells us to “acknowledge Him” – recognize that He is, He knows, He has the answers we need… and MUCH MORE!
Have you ever been headed somewhere new and asked for directions or perhaps used your GPS to find your way?
Consider that the Lord God is your divine GPS. He knows the way. He knows YOU, and He knows what is BEST. Let Him direct your paths. Learn to “be still” and listen for His quiet voice while reading the Bible, or seeking wise counsel from good, solid, Christian friends.
Prayer: Lord, slow me down enough to hear You directing and guiding me on the path You know best. Amen.
