Day 39 | DAVID’S JOYOUS SONG OF THANKSGIVING

DAVID’S JOYOUS SONG OF THANKSGIVING
1 Chronicles 16:34-36
“Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. And say, ‘Save us, O God of our salvation; Gather us together, and deliver us from the Gentiles, to give thanks to Your holy name, to triumph in Your praise.’ Blessed be the Lord God of Israel from everlasting to everlasting! And all the people said, ‘Amen!’ and praised the Lord.”
One of the things that stands out about David was his ongoing praise of and giving thanks to the LORD God. He knew Who God was, knew what God had done for him, and was thankful and full of praise!
So I got to thinking: what causes us NOT to be as full of praise as David was?
Is it that God isn’t doing anything in our lives today? No, that’s not it because God “is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8)
Is it because God isn’t offering salvation to us today like He did back then? No, that’s not it because Romans 10:13 says, “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
So, why are we not all full of praise to the Lord God?
I think for many Christians, we get too busy. We are on our phones, our computers, texting, taking pictures, and keeping in touch with everybody except the Lord God.
I recently read a story about a couple returning home from the mission field with four children, and they started having dinner together as a family by candlelight. They said something extraordinary happened: everyone started talking and sharing and they were not distracted by electronic gizmos. They had time for each other!
We are too often distracted by the phone, the TV, or other things vying for our attention. Maybe that’s why we spend less time praising the Lord than we should. (Just a thought.)
Prayer: Lord, You deserve my attention, my praise, my thanksgiving, and my joyous celebration of our relationship. Thank You. Amen.
