Day  22 | SHARP AND GLISTENING
SHARP AND GLISTENING

Hebrews 4:12
“For the Word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any two-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”

I remember back in my Boy Scout days – which seem like a hundred years ago – that we needed specific gear for camping. I remember buying a “whetstone” because it was on my list of things they told me to get.

It turns out that a whetstone is designed for sharpening things like my scout knife and scout ax (both of which I still have). Those two tools are just the thing you’d need for gathering wood on campouts.

I can remember spending time with some mineral oil and my stone and practicing sharpening those knife and ax edges.  They would eventually really glisten, and the edges were SHARP!

Think about how sharp the Word of God must be to be able to divide the SOUL and SPIRIT.

Further, because the Word of God is TRUTH, it can accurately judge the thoughts and attitudes of the heart… which can’t be seen with the eyes.

The author of Hebrews 4:12 is sharing about how ALIVE and ACTIVE and SHARP and PENETRATING the Word of God is.

I have sometimes wondered why so many in this world hate the Jews.  But then I consider how the Jews brought God’s Ten Commandments to the world (which we Christians accept) and thus shared a standard from God that everyone has violated and all non-Christians hate.

This hatred from non-believers comes, I think, from the fact that God’s Word is like a highly polished mirror, showing them their faults and blemishes.  Perhaps because they feel there’s nothing they can do about them… or possibly because they like them. Maybe no one has shared with them how God can remove those blemishes and give them Life Eternal and Life Abundant.

Non-believers are often so BLINDED by the “Prince of this World” (Satan) and are walking in darkness and can’t see the light.

NO ONE likes to be judged.  NO ONE wants to be wrong.  NO ONE likes to be shown his/her faults, blemishes, or sins.  But as Jesus said, “You shall know the TRUTH and the TRUTH shall set you free.”  (John 8:32)

Many people in our country today are walking around and living like zombies. They are dead. They are wicked and don’t know it or don’t care.  They are lost.  They are “sheep” who need a Shepherd.

As Christians, we need to understand – like I did when a boy scout with my knife and ax – how sharp the Word of God is. Further, we must use extreme care and be led by the Holy Spirit in wielding it around others… Christians or not.  But we need to have it handy for helping others who are lost and need to find The Way.

Prayer: Lord, help me to become more aware this month, of all the people around me who need YOU.  And then help me to remember Your Word – and to share it in such a way that they say YES to You as Lord and Savior. Amen.
